Unless you’ve been living in a cave for the past three weeks, you’ll have noticed that THE NEXT GENERATION IS UPON US!. And whilst this is obviously a very exciting time for gamers and the industry in general; I’d like to turn your attention to a few games coming out in the next few days that are very much worthy of your attention.
- SUPER MARIO 3D WORLD
Super Mario 3D World is the best platformer I’ve played this generation. Danielle Riendeau – @Polygon
Nintendo might finally have given the Wii U the game it deserves. 3D World is the home console follow up to Super Mario 3D Land, which debuted on 3DS a few years ago. At this point, the Wii U is in desperate need of something, anything to create some buzz going into Christmas, and Nintendo might have hit a home run on this one. I certainly hope so at least.
More on this game next week, when Nintendo lets us in the UK play it #nooceans
From cover to cover, Tearway is an engrossing, spellbinding experience. – Griffen Mcleroy @ Polygon
Remember the Vita? That Sony Handheld that promised so much yet delivered so little? Despite its poor showing in terms of sales, Sony’s handheld has had a nice year, an influx of Indie support and the upcoming PS4 have helped the machine build interest if nothing else, but it’s still lacking in a title that can push hardware; Tearaway could be that title.
It’s from the guys behind the Little Big Planet franchise; Media Molecule and they bring with it their unique sense of style, and humour. The game looks like nothing i’ve ever played before, and like LBP Vita, it looks set to use the Vita’s features to their maximum. This has been on my list for a long time; and its finally here.
My copy is on route as we speak, and I’ll probably write something about it in the coming weeks.
- LEGEND OF ZELDA: A LINK BETWEEN WORLDS
Nintendo has been shockingly cavalier with one of the most beloved games ever. The result is the sequel I never knew I wanted — and one of my favorite games of 2013. – Arthur Gies @ Polygon
Another game from the big N, this time on the 3DS (Which has had a fantastic year by the way). A Link Between Worlds is a follow up/ Sequel to A Link to the Past.. I think. It’s a return to a style of Zelda game we’ve not seen in a while, and the series first new release on 3DS. Again like the above two games, it’s reviewing very well, and looks to be another fine addition to the LoZ franchise.
Simply put, if you’ve got a 3DS, you need to own this game.
At the time of writing, only Tearaway and LoZ are available in the UK (Thanks Nintendo); but 3D World makes it’s UK entrance this time next week. So whilst it’s great that new consoles are finally with us, don’t forget that there are some fantastic games still to play on current generation hardware.
